Press Release - July 19th 2007
On Sunday July 16, Jay Goldman was given a very prestigious award. He was awarded The Presidential Volunteer Service Award by the director of the USA Freedom Corps, on behalf of The President of the United States.
The award is given to Americans that go above and beyond in volunteer service. The goal of the award is to give recognition to those who have shown a true passion for making a difference and helping those in need. Also, to inspire others to take action and volunteer in their local communities and around the world. One of the most amazing things about the award is that it is usually given to someone who is in their fifties or sixties, who have done life long volunteer work. Jay is receiving it at twenty five.
Jay was invited to be a keynote speaker for an international volunteering event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania sponsored by the Building Bridges Collation. It was held at Independence Park which is across the street from independence hall and the Liberty Bell. The event was attended by people that were considering volunteering abroad as well as past volunteers. It was here where Jay humbly accepted the award and then gave a powerful and inspiring speech to encourage the crowd to volunteer. Judging by the audience's non-wavering attention and joyous applause there is no doubt he got his got his point across.
After speaking with Jay he told me, "There are so may other people here today that deserve this more than me. I am just honored to receive this and look forward to doing bigger and better international events in the future."
